As part of this whole trying new things challenge I’ve set myself this year, yesterday I listened to my first proper podcast. They’ve never really appealed to me, but since a couple of friends rave about them I thought I’d give one a go. I knew that fictional podcasts wouldn’t really float my boat so instead I checked out the TED Talks Radio Hour. And when I saw the latest episode was entitled “What is beauty?” I knew I was on to a winner.
Oh my goodness I LOVED it! So rather than reading a rambling blog post from me today I want you to go and listen to it. It talks about everything from the beauty of nature to how beauty can be the story behind an object rather than the object itself. That bit in particular really got to me: it summed up the fact that it is not our looks that make us beautiful – it’s everything inside of us, it’s everything we’ve been through. If that’s not the best endorsement to go out confidently and live the best story we could dream of then I don’t know what is!
A little warning before you go off and listen to the talk: About halfway through it does talk about models and human beauty stereotypes. If you may find that triggering you might want to skip through that section. Otherwise, go and enjoy!
