If you live in the UK you’ve probably seen the adverts for the This Girl Can Campaign on TV at some point over the last year.
This Girl Can is a national campaign developed by Sport England and a wide range of partnership organisations. It’s a celebration of active women up and down the country who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets.
Whereas most initiatives to get us exercising are focused on losing weight, or show toned, skinny women to advertise exercise, the This Girl Can focus is on real women like you and me. It’s message is that you can do exercise whoever you are, and every time I see one of their adverts I feel so empowered!
Even if you’re not a big fan of exercise, or you can’t exercise for health reasons, is this not an incredibly positive message to be sending out to women!? I love it!
If there were more national campaigns that aimed to empower women and improve body image then I truly believe there would be fewer disordered eating behaviours and more self confidence.
If you want to support the cause you can buy This Girl Can merchandise at M&S (this isn’t a sponsored or affiliate link – I just love the cause!).
